Hello and Welcome! I’m Jeff and this is my web site, Good Day Press, where I get to share with you my adventures in books, the outdoors, and in the kitchen. I’m coming to you from the Pacific Northwest of the United States. The major metropolitan areas within my reach are Seattle, Portland, and Vancouver, BC. National Parks easily enjoyed are the Coastal Redwoods, Crater Lake, Mt. Rainier, and Olympic National Park. I enjoy each season and how they suggest what I do and where I do it. Summer is the right time for enjoying the green outdoors while winter gives all the wet and chilly reasons for staying indoors with my books, a cup of coffee, and cobbler made from berries I picked in the summer.
Since moving to the PNW my attraction to the world of books dramatically increased partly due to the weather and partly through community influence. Events such as Portland’s Wordstock, Seattle’s Antiquarian Book Fair, and The Vancouver Writers Festival made a positive impact on my life by encouraging reading, writing, and preserving the written word. I discovered when books become unwanted they generally end up in the basement or garage where in many cases after several years are not salvageable sometimes even for paper recycling. The next place for these unwanted pieces of literature and historical record (non fiction) are the local paper recyclers or landfill either by way of the curbside or after making a brief stop at the local thrift store.
Today I collect and sell books; they are antique, vintage, modern, rare, and even hard to find. How did I ever get into this gig? Perhaps it’s my life long attraction to history and art that possessed me to try to save these books or maybe it was that I soon began to find homes where these books are wanted. There’s nothing more satisfying than getting a note from a buyer thanking you for having (saving) what they’ve been searching for or even a simple note that shares their passion for the same topic. May no book perish!
I am always looking for books in basements or garages and I will consider purchasing estate collections or individual rare books. I will also consider buyouts or cleanups from estate sales and I am available for pricing estate collections.
My desire to discover the world around me comes from my father who loved to travel and learn about different cultures. The Pacific Northwest offers many opportunities to sooth the senses all year-long with just a short drive out-of-town. It may not cure anxiety, depression, or ill-health, but it can certainly give peace to calm the soul. The great American poet Emerson tells us in one of his texts “The inhabitants of the cities suppose that the country landscape is pleasant only half the year. To the attentive eye, each moment of the year has its own beauty, and in the same field it beholds, every hour, a picture which was never seen before, and which shall never be seen again.” Perhaps you will find inspiration in my travel posts and then hit the road to experience the beauty of nature all around you. Using my camera is just one way to share my passion for the outdoors which results sometimes in a different form of art enjoyed by many. What’s on you bucket list?
My passion for cooking and baking comes from my mother who was a first generation Sicilian. The holidays are only complete with a variety of pastries made like Momma used to make. Seasonal harvests dictate what’s in the oven and on the table. The family loves berries and cherries in the summer so I often have a cobbler cooking on the weekends. Apples announce autumn loud and clear when mixed with cinnamon, cloves, and honey the smell of apple desserts travel from floor to floor throughout the house. You’ll find recipes and culinary topics to get you thinking, cooking, and filling your home with the tastes and smells of happiness.
So sit back, relax, and enjoy! You can easily subscribe to my posts by email on the home page. Thanks for the visit.
